The remembered and forgotten

This year, like every year come to pass, I shan’t be wearing the poppy. Do with that what you will.

There is a general societal expectation to wear a poppy during the remembrance period – a llitmus test of patriotism. Akin to wearing odd socks it can feel like pressure to conform.

The Royal British Legion states unambiguously that wearing a poppy is a personal choice. No one is obliged to wear one, and noone should be pressured, judged, or shamed for opting out. Many veterans themseves have ethical, political and personal reasons for opting out because it’s become excessive, commercialised and performative. Many have complained about poppy fascism, its become a seasonal fashion accessory, wearing the poppy for social or work-related reasons to look patriotic when it suited them. Public figures and employees are often targeted for not wearing a poppy, sometimes facing public scrutiny, racial abuse and discrimination.

Some Muslim communities feel alienated by the poppy seen as a symbol of Western imperialism, especially when it’s associated with recent wars of Iraq or Afghanistan, drone warfare and proxy wars across the middleast, most recently in Palestine. Which killed millions of innocent civilians and children as collateral damage. Displacing millions as refugees, many onto the path of Martyrdom with nothing left to lose. Not to mention the atrocities committed by British Soldiers with moral compasses so broken they must have been depraved. Namely the systematic brutal torture of iraqi Muslims in British military bases.. Notwithstanding the atrocities of UAE Muslims against Sudans Muslims under the guide of Zionism. Along with the genocide of Yemens poor Muslims at the hands of Saudis Salafis, predominately Zionists. Zionism is a far-right extremism ideology of Supremacy deep-rooted in Racism.

Like the English St Georges flag, Poppies too have been co-opted by zionists, racists and fascists to stir division, discord and hate. Far-right groups appropriate national symbolism including the St Georges flag and poppies, remembrance imagery, and other patriotic symbols.

Demonstrated by English far-right Reform voters earlier this year in Operation Raise the Colours. #raisetheflag spearheaded by Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon infamously known as Tommy Robinson, a proud zionist and far-right provocateur. Formerly EDL rebranded as Britain First. With British far-right media – GBNews, Daily Mail and red-top tabloids fanning the flames of Racism and islamophobia i.e Zionism. Leaving millions radicalised onto extremism and terrorism.

For some patriotic reason or another trying in vain to re-conquer 6.5 million lampposts situated in England. British patriots putting their lives on the line for their country by Flagging lampposts as their perceived patriotic duty – climbing up lampposts with ladders in the dead of the night to fly the flag. Too busied for community service and voluntary work or litter picking. Painting the red St Georges Cross as grafitti on rubbish bins, left defeated by 8,017 speed cameras located in England after vandalising a few. Painting the english red cross on Dog waste bins, Grit bins, road markings and traffic signs and bollards, bus shelters, postboxes and potholes. Painting the red cross on the white canvas of roundabouts and zebra crossings and white vans. Showcasing on the world stage english snails painted with St George’s cross and sheep painted with red cross – all in the name of patriotism.

We don’t need Nigel Farage or PM Keir Starmer another proud Zionist (in his own words) to hereby declare a property, chattel, animal or person in England as English – snails and all. Without painting it with grafitti of a red cross.

Lest We Forget more than 10 million Commonwealth soldiers who helped on the Allied side including Black Africans, 5 million Muslim soldiers fought for Britain alongwith Sikhs and Hindus and Indians, consequently 1.5 million Muslim soldiers were Killed in Action serving the British Army. Wholesale denial of Imperialsm which sparked off Zionism onto terrorism igniting forever wars in the middleast. The blowback of Colonialism – The British Mandate for Palestine 1948 and earlier Balfour Declaration 1917 which legitmized Zionism is spreading across the world like wildfire, devastating Palestine but leaving Ukraine a Zionist state like Israel in ruins.

History cannot be bombed. During WWII 1939-45 approximately 75 million people were killed. Of which 25 million were from The Soviet Union, 17 million Chinese killed by Japanese, 7 million Germans killed and Half a million British. Whilst Nazi Zionists exterminated 11 million people in Europe including 6 million Jews. Not to mention 5 million Non-Jews deemed ‘Unworthy of Life’ i.e ethnic minorities, lgbtqia, polish and slavs, romas, gypsies, jehovas, anyone with disabilities, neurodivergent etc. Often overlooked in mainstream narratives. The modern Poppy Appeal glosses over or sanitises the bloody history of imperialism.

Needless to mention like many others opting not to wear a poppy. I will respectfully observe the 2 minute silence on Remembrance Sunday. In respect of the Armistice Agreement that ended World War on the ‘eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month; November 11, 1918 at 11am. Not out of nationalism or patriotism, but out of respect for all who suffered – the remembered and forgotten. Remembrance shouldn’t require a symbol. Humanity doesn’t need a badge or performance. Lest we forget – We all bleed the same. LIVE ON.
